So this might be a little off topic from my first few blogs, but it’s my page and my choice and some of it actually falls right in line, so yeah, here it is.
I’m going to write about the greatest inning I’ve ever seen in baseball. Everyone else already has. This is my take. It had all the drama of your favourite television show with a little twist. It was real life happening right before your astonished eyes.
How it started…wait a minute. You know how it started and you know how it ended (BIG ‘OL GO JAYS GO!), but that’s not what I want to write about right now. I could. And I would love to both for the hell of it and because I love the idea of doing it as a real gig, but that’s not what drove me to write about it.
This is what I want to say about it: the fans that were throwing stuff are a disgrace. I used to be one of you. When I was a kid. A disgruntled, careless, thoughtless teenager. Most of you, if not all, were grown-ass adults. There is no reason to throw anything, yet alone things that could injure other fans or the players you supposedly cherish on the field. Your acts were childish. No different than a child’s temper tantrum. Pathetic really. What you were doing would not have, IN ANY WAY, made a difference to the call on the field. I would hate to think what would have happened if you immature individuals had to see that play lose the game for the Jays and then have them release you on the streets of Toronto.
I still believe the majority of the riots of the past began with people who were not actually fans, but hoodlums of opportunity who helped create a mob mentality. But in this case, I believe those hoodlums of opportunity would have been none other than the same disgusting people who were throwing whatever they were holding on to, onto the people below them. It saddens me to think that way. As fans. As adults. As Canadians. It disgusts me to think of myself in the same category as you people.
What made me possibly even more upset is the people who wrote and tweeted after the game that placed blame on the mother who had brought her baby to the ballgame. Why is it her fault that some people acted like assholes? Parents have been bringing their children and babies to sporting events long before any of you keyboard heroes were born. The blame for any of it lies solely on the individuals who chose to act like spoiled little children who didn’t get their way. We need stop making excuses for people who make poor choices and hold them responsible for their actions. They don’t deserve a free pass because they got caught up in an emotional moment of a sporting event.
That’s my take.
That inning though. That swing. That bat flip…

Don’t think I was a disgruntled, thoughtless, careless teenager, but not sure that had anything to do with it. I figure most people at that game were, yes fans, but there is a mob mentality that at times can be very scary. How about we just blame it on the alcoholics and the (not sure what to call these people without being politically effed up) and leave at that. A monumental victory. Yea, marred by some assholes.

Wasn’t and wouldn’t imply that all there are equal. It was a few of the many who attended that game that caused a stain. I can only hope that smarter will prevail the next time around.
Side note: were you there or do you mean you once were a thrower of garbage at an event?
